The West Berkshire Observatory can help you explore local data and information that are relevant to events in July:
28 June to 2: July Eid al-Adha – This festival is the second and the largest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam. Look at the Population & Demographics report for information on the Muslim population in the Borough.
3-9: Alcohol Awareness Week – The Drug and Alcohol Needs Assessment for Berkshire West in 2022, available on the Needs Assessments and Further Resources page, shows that alcohol is the third biggest risk factor for illness and death in this country. On the Data Explorer, search for “Admission episodes for alcohol-related conditions”; this figure for every 100,000 population is one way to understand the impact of alcohol on our population’s health.
1st-30th: Pride – The 2021 Census was the first national census to ask a person’s sexual orientation and gender identity. To find data in West Berkshire use keywords such as “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” in the Data Explorer.
18 July-17 August: South Asian Heritage Month – This is a time to celebrate the heritage of people with roots in the South Asian countries. Use the Population & Demographics map to map different ethnic groups by neighbourhoods in the Borough.
28th: World Hepatitis Day – Sharing injecting equipment can spread blood-borne viruses such as hepatitis B and hepatitis C. The Drug and Alcohol Needs Assessment for Berkshire West in 2022, available on the Needs Assessments and Further Resources page, has data and information on the interventions available.
